Statement from Speaker Shekarchi on Departure of Housing Secretary Stefan Pryor

 

 

STATE HOUSE – Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi issued the following statement today about the resignation of Housing Secretary Stefan Pryor:

 

“Stefan Pryor hit the ground running as the state’s first secretary of the Department of Housing and he shared my passion for addressing all aspects of Rhode Island’s housing crisis. He has a tireless work ethic and he produced immediate results in a very challenging housing climate. I wish him well in his future endeavors. I will work with Governor McKee to ensure the momentum we have achieved around our housing initiatives will continue under a new secretary.”

 

 

 

Former President Trump's sentencing in his New York hush money case is being postponed until September. This comes after Trump's lawyers filed a letter with the judge looking to set aside the recent guilty verdict. The sentencing will now be delayed until September 18th at the earliest.        Former White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci says he has "no doubt" President Biden is mentally capable of continuing as president. During a CBS News podcast, Fauci said that he has no doubt based on interactions with Biden, but that he can only speak on his own interactions. He went on to add that he "can't say" if he saw anything medically concerning with Biden's debate performance, saying that he believed it would be inappropriate to say that when looking at someone on a "one-shot basis."        The Fourth of July holiday rush is in full swing as the TSA expects to break records this year. TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein says the agents could screen more than three million airline passengers on a single day at any point this summer. The TSA is seeing a roughly five-and-a-half percent increase in passengers this July 4th holiday compared to last year, with Farbstein saying airlines adding flights is leading to the uptick.        Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is addressing allegations of sexual assault by a former babysitter. The allegations being reported in a new "Vanity Fair" article claim the independent presidential candidate assaulted a babysitter at his home in 1998. Kennedy responded in a podcast Tuesday that it was "garbage," and accused Vanity Fair of "recycling 30-year-old stories."        Jamaica is bracing for Hurricane Beryl. The National Hurricane Center's latest update predicts the storm will pass over or near the island nation over the next several hours. The storm is currently a Category 4 with maximum sustained winds of 145 miles per hour. Beryl has already claimed at least seven lives after devastating Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.        The Seattle Kraken are making NHL history with the team's latest coaching hire. Jessica Campbell has been hired as the team's assistant coach. She becomes the first woman ever to be named an assistant, associate or head coach in the league. The team previously hired her in 2022 as an assistant coach for its AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds.
