RIPTA Announces 2024 Community Site Visits for Reduced Fare Bus Pass Program for Seniors and People with Disabilities

 

Providence, Rhode Island, January 11, 2024 ... The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) today released the 2024 Community Site Visit Schedule for the Reduced Fare Bus Pass Program for Seniors and People with Disabilities.  These site visits make it easier for Rhode Islanders to learn about and apply for this program.

 

Every month, RIPTA’s Customer Service staff will travel to communities throughout the state to process Photo ID bus passes for qualified seniors and individuals with disabilities with valid documentation. These statewide Photo ID Community Site Visits allow residents in both rural and urban areas to access transit information and apply for the Reduced Fare Bus Pass Program without having to travel to RIPTA offices in Providence. Customer Service staff will be on hand to process program applications and answer questions about all RIPTA services.

 

Photo ID bus passes for qualified people with disabilities and seniors will cost $10.00 in 2024 and are valid for 2 years.

Photo ID Offices

RIPTA will continue to process bus pass applications at two Photo ID Offices. The Photo ID Office in Kennedy Plaza is open on Wednesdays only, and the Photo ID Office at RIPTA’s headquarters, 705 Elmwood Avenue, Providence is open Monday through Friday.  Operational hours are the same at both locations:  from 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm.

 

In addition, RIPTA Customer Service staff will continue to process bus passes applications submitted through the mail and online.

The U.S. has arguably never seen something quite like the first presidential debate of 2024 last night. President Biden stumbled at times during the night, which reportedly is sparking concerns among Democrats over his age and ability to take on Donald Trump in November. Meanwhile, Trump seemed to try and deflect his actions during the attack on the U.S. Capitol, ignored some questions, and dismissed accusations that he had an affair with porn star Stormy Daniels.       The Supreme Court says a January 6th Capitol rioter should not have been charged with obstruction. The case involved a former Pennsylvania police officer charged for his alleged participation in the attack on the Capitol. The Justices ruled 6-3 that the government's broad use of a 2002 law that specifically deals with obstruction does not apply to the officer, and by extension, others. It does not mean the officer and other rioters are absolved of any of the other charges they face.       COVID is not going away anytime soon as new variants fuel a summer surge in the U.S. According to the CDC, infections are growing in at least 38 states. They're especially high in the Western and Southern U.S. This type of summer spike has become a seasonal pattern.       A big chunk of California could soon see the worst heat wave of 2024. Starting Monday, forecasters say the central and northern parts of the state are expected to see excessive heat for perhaps the entire week. Several spots could experience temperatures 20 degrees above normal.       Oklahoma's state school superintendent is requiring all public schools to have a Bible in every classroom from grades five through 12. On Thursday, Superintendent Ryan Walters announced teachers will also have to teach from the Bible and incorporate it as part of their curriculum. Walters claims it's in accordance with academic standards and state law. The ACLU is already suing to block a new Louisiana law that requires the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public schools, and may do the same here.       A new slate of young playmakers are set to enter the NHL on Friday. The 2024 NHL Draft is set to be held in the Las Vegas Sphere this weekend. The San Jose Sharks hold the top overall pick and are expected to draft Boston University forward Macklin Celebrini. The Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens round out the rest of the top five selections.
